A flamenco tribute to Solais Replenishing Hand Serum

Solais Replenishing Hand Serum

Flamenco’s distinctive hand gestures are referred to as floreo—meaning ‘to flower’ in Spanish. And as the focal point of our newest release, 35 years after our first product for the hands, these intricate flourishes take centre stage in a cinematic collaboration between flamenco dancer Ana Morales and Aesop.

To mark the launch of Solais Replenishing Hand Serum—a formulation that applies the science of facial skin care to the hands—this short film showcases the exquisite floreo of Morales and company.

‘Like touching the sky’: Ana Morales on flamenco

'In flamenco we use our body as percussion,’ explains Ana Morales. ‘It can be soft, it can be subtle, it can be strong, it can be loud, it can be quiet, and it’s a way to take energy to the very end, to the limit.’

‘In a simple black leotard, with hair combed into a bun, Morales cuts the classic image of a flamenco dancer, as she and her company engage in movement that reflects a variety of moods—with every gesture communicating a multitude of histories and emotions. ‘Flamenco comes from a mix of many cultures at a very specific moment, not just from the Roma who settled in Andalusia, but from everything that was happening there,’ she explains. ‘Through the flamenco there is a very powerful channel to express emotions, because it is born from the need to tell through its lyrics, its dances, the guitar, what was happening to those people, what was happening in that area.’

‘It is this lineage of dance that has not just informed the way she presents in this world, but which Morales says has formed the shape of her very existence.’

‘For me, flamenco is a way of life,’ she says, ‘it’s a way of understanding my emotions and feelings. It’s not that flamenco hasn’t changed my life, it’s that I couldn’t understand life without it. I haven’t had a life without flamenco.’
